Fax

The departmental fax machine is in the Economics Building, Rm. 207, and the fax number is 858-534-7040. To send a fax, you need a UC San Diego Long Distance Dialing I.D. Card with a seven-digit I.D. number unique to your index number. Please contact your Telecom Support Coordinator if you need a new or replacement card.

How to Send a Fax

1. Place documents face up in feeder
2. Dial destination on the key pad

  • Inter-campus number: dial last five digits of fax number
  • 858 area code: dial 8 + seven-digit number (no area code needed)
  • 619 area code: dial 8 + 619 + seven-digit number
  • 800 (or other toll free number: dial 8 + 800 (or other) + seven digit number
  • Outside local area:
  • UCSD Long Distance Card – DOMESTIC CALL:
    1. Dial *6*
    2. Dial your personal ID number (on front of card)
    3. Dial #8
    4. Dial area code + seven-digit number
    5. 800 (or other toll free number): dial 8 + 800 (or other) + seven-digit number
  • UCSD Long Distance Card – INTERNATIONAL CALL:
    1. Dial *6*
    2. Dial your personal ID number (on front of card)
    3. Dial #16
    4. Dial country code + city code + local number

Example*6* + ID no. + #16 + country code city code local no.

  • Calling Card: use as you would on a regular phone

3. Press START Black
4. Wait for the confirmation page to be printed.

Telephone

To make a non-local call, you need a UC San Diego Long Distance Dialing I.D. Card with a seven-digit I.D. number unique to your index number. Please contact your Telecom Support Coordinator if you need a new or replacement card. Without a card, you may dial 858, 619, and 800 area codes numbers by following step 2 in the faxing instructions.
