  • In the annual US News and World Report 2009, UC San Diego Economics was named in the top 15 best economics program in the US, ranking fourth among public institutions.
  • The Department of Economics is now the most popular department at UC San Diego, with well over 2,700 undergraduates (about 10% of the undergraduate population) majoring in Economics, Management Science, or Math-Econ.
  • In 2003, two of the Department's faculty were awarded the Nobel Prize, which is the highest honor in the discipline of Economics. Long-time UC San Diego Professors Clive Granger and Robert Engle conducted their ground-breaking research in time-series analysis on our campus.
  • With high frequency, Department of Economics graduates are admitted to leading graduate programs in economics, business and law. Our majors offer alumni myriad professional opportunities in academia and both the public and private sectors.
