Computing Support

Computing Help/Support: provided by the Social Science Computing Facility (SSCF). Email problems to SSCF Help .

Departmental Laptops: available for instructional and research use on a check-out basis. See Rafael Acevedo in Sequoyah Hall, Room 247.

Email / Network Access: available to each new faculty member upon arrival to campus which will be automatically set up when hiring paperwork is completed.

New Computers and Laptops (including personal computers): need to be registered with SSCF in order to access the departmental network and internet. Email SSCF Help or call 858-822-2423.

Personal Websites: available to all faculty and graduate students.

  1. Contact SSCF Help to set up a user account for your personal website.
  2. Download templates and instructions for personal website here.
  3. Use .html editing software* to modify templates
  4. Upload your templates and supporting files to the server using an FTP client*

*If you do not have .html editing software or an FTP client please download KompoZer and FileZilla

Course Support

Economics Building, Rm. 200 Lab (for Graduate Courses Only): view a complete list of software installed in the lab.

Software Support: complete a Course Information (CINFO) form to request software support for a course.

Course Web Pages: faculty are encouraged to use WebCT, a Web course tool and online course management system designed to complement a classroom-based course.

Single Sign-On

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a unique userid and password that authenticates identity and access rights and allows entry to a set of campus business systems/features including At Your Service (benefits), MyFunds (financial reports), Marketplace (purchasing), and TritonLink (student & course data).

New or Re-hired Employees: self-register for an account.

Current Employees: contact the Single Sign-On Coordinator if you have access problems.

Departmental network and email access is not coordinated with Single Sign-On.

Software Acquisition

Academic Computing Services (ACS) Software Distribution distributes bulk purchases of software to the UC San Diego campus at discount prices. ACS strongly suggests that for individual, single quantity purchases, buyers consider the UC San Diego Bookstore for fully packaged products including CD and license information for immediate use.
