Visiting Graduate Students
What is a Visiting Grad Student?
A graduate student registered at an educational institution outside of the University of California system may pursue research related to their degree program at UC San Diego with the approval of a faculty sponsor, the department chair, and the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies.
For international visiting graduate students, the sponsoring department will consult with the International Center to obtain the proper visa.
Visiting Graduate Students:
- must be in the Dissertation writing stage of their program
- must have Economics faculty sponsor for visit
- maximum stay is one year
- must complete the enrollment form and be approved by the Office of Graduate Studies following department approval
- complete International Center forms as directed by the Economics Department in order to obtain a J1 Visa for the visit
