What is a Visiting Professor?

A visiting professor has an employment position at another educational institution outside of the University of California system and is seeking temporary employment at UC San Diego. For international Visiting Professors, the sponsoring department will consult with the International Center to obtain the proper visa.

Visiting Professors:

  • must be have a position at another educational institution
  • visits vary from one to three quarters
  • must have officially applied for temporary employment
  • international applicants complete UC San Diego International Center forms as directed by the Department of Economics in order to obtain a J1 Visa

What is a Lecturer?

A lecturer is a temporary instructor paid to teach courses at the undergraduate level. For Lecturers, the sponsoring department will consult with the International Center to obtain the proper visa.

Lecturers:

  • teaching assignments vary from one to three quarters
  • must have officially applied for temporary employment
  • international applicants complete International Center forms as directed by the Economics Department in order to obtain a J1 Visa
