Do You Want to Become a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Economics?

UC San Diego is host to thousands of domestic and international Visiting Scholars each year.  Each of these scholars brings with them unique perspectives and experiences that enhance the research and learning environment on campus.  The Department of Economics embraces this campus-wide tradition and enjoys the influx of cultural and academic diversity as well as increased intellectual stimulation as our Visiting Scholars integrate themselves into departmental life. 

As a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Economics you will enjoy the benefits of a scholarly environment ranked among the highest in the United States. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in our full range of departmental seminars & events, have access to our world-class facilities and have the opportunity to interact with our elite faculty which include Nobel laureates, researchers with the National Bureau of Economic Research and fellows of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society.

To become a Visiting Scholar in our Department you must meet 3 criteria:

  1. Have a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field (scholars still working on a Ph.D. please see Visiting Grads)
  2. Obtain a faculty sponsor*
  3. Conduct research relevant to the research currently being conducted in the Department

*  This person will be your primary research contact for the duration of your visit. Your sponsor must be a full-time faculty member in the Department of Economics with research interests closely related to your proposed research. If you would like to be a Visiting Scholar but are unsure of who may be an appropriate faculty sponsor please submit your application and our Department Chair will review your application and contact potential sponsors within the Department.
