In response to the economic challenges raised by the COVID pandemic, budget deficits have led to a big increase in borrowing by the U.S. Treasury and huge purchases of Treasury debt by the Federal Reserve.  Can we count on U.S. Treasury securities remaining the safe haven for world investors in this environment?  Darrell Duffie will discuss some of the issues and possible reforms to address concerns.  Duffie is the Adams Distinguished Professor of Management and Professor of Finance at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and past president of the American Finance Association.  He served on the Squam Lake Working Group and chaired the Market Participants Group, which provided key recommendations on improving stability of the U.S. financial system.
